EMI shielding applications by industry

Industries covered

An aircraft radio, an infusion pump and an engine control unit do not face the same interference, the same temperatures or the same rules. We start from your sector and your operating conditions, then find the gasket or pad that fits. To compare every product and its variants, browse our full range of shielding gaskets and thermal pads.

Environments and uses

Each industry has its standard and its environment

EMC requirements change from one industry to the next, first of all because the standard changes: DO-160 in aerospace, IEC 60601-1-2 for medical devices, CISPR 25 in the automotive sector, MIL-STD-461 for defence equipment, the EMC Directive and EN 50121 for industry and for telecom and rail projects. Each applies to the finished equipment; the gasket contributes by keeping the enclosure electrically closed.

The environment matters as much as the standard. An enclosure out in the rain or the salt spray needs a gasket that seals as well as it shields; a door opened every day needs a contact that stands up to it; sealed electronics need a path for their heat.

Five product families cover these needs: conductive silicone gaskets, fabric-over-foam, knitted wire mesh, finger stock and thermal pads. Each industry page says which one goes where.
